Renewable Energy Infrastructure Development

Giving back and empowering local communities around our projects

About Us
The Utilities And Infrastructure Company Pty Ltd (UIC) intends to commence with the construction of a solar power plant in South Africa. The power generated from this plant will be supplied to clients in the region.
The infrastructure to be built under this project in this and future phases will increase the electricity infrastructure base in the region, thereby enabling other investment projects. Further, it will alleviate dependency on the national grid, create 120 – 160 direct jobs, develop 10 highly skilled technicians, and contribute to the local and national revenue and ultimately to the GDP of the economy as a whole.
UIC has partnered with entities with a proven track record in renewable energy projects across the globe, having built various solar, wind, waste to energy, hydro and biomass projects on the continent
UIC intends to integrate the local community into its program by ringfencing at least 30% of its procurement to local companies, and employing locally as much as practically possible. Expert skills will be brought in as necessary, and, only for the periods required to transfer knowledge and upskill the local employees. Interns will be brought in from local tertiary institutions in order to impart practical/on the job skills to them.
Management
The Utilities and Infrastructure Company Pty Ltd (‘UIC’), a South African company managed by Moitswari Mofokeng, was established to explore renewable energy opportunities and develop much needed infrastructure in South Africa. In its first phase of existence, UIC is developing a renewable energy project. The strategy of the company is to take advantage of the recently promulgated 100MW threshold for self generation of off-grid power solutions.

Training & Community Development
UIC continuously looks for ways to give back and empower local communities around its projects. During the construction phase of the projects, UIC will employ 120 local people in the construction and post-construction of the solar facility.
The courses and training will be given to people of the local community in order to be able to help with construction of the solar installation construction.
With the skills learned, the community will have a team that can be employed during the time of the construction, and afterwards for the maintenance. The knowledge will give opportunity for people to start their own businesses for installing home solar installations for the neighbourhood and beyond.

Solar Technician Course
The training is set to cover several topics from the basics on how the solar panels are set-up, to the more advanced engineering aspects of the plant. It is specifically designed to give hands-on understanding of the facility.
Our training programme prepares the participants to apply basic engineering principles and technical skills in support of engineers and other professionals engaged in developing solar-powered energy systems. The course includes instruction in solar energy principles, energy storage and transfer technologies, testing and inspection procedures, system maintenance procedures, and report preparation.
Other topics include site analysis, system sizing, array configuration, and electricity basics; electrical design characteristics such as wiring, overcurrent protection, and grounding; a detailed look at module and inverter specifications and characteristics; mounting methods for various roof structures and ground mounts; and an introduction to safety, construction management, commissioning and more.
This six-module course will provide the participants with the skills and training necessary for Solar PV installers. Starting with the PV fundamentals, and a solid understanding of various components, system architectures, and applications for PV systems, Students will obtain in-depth knowledge PV Solar.
